Learn More About Lintel, Column & Beam Drawing in Civil Engineering

Presenting a simple but powerful video demonstration sharing more information about Lintel, column & beam drawing study. Learn how to read a drawing of lintel, column and beam in civil engineering and construction.

What is Column in Construction :

Generally a column is something which carries load from beam and slab. In other words columns are defined as the members that carries load mainly in compression. columns carry bending moment as well, about one or both axes of the cross section.

What is Beam:

A beam is a structural element that is capable of withstanding load primarily by resisting against bending.

The bending force induced into the material of the beam as a result of the external loads, own weight, span and external reactions to these loads is called a bending moment.

Beams are characterized by their profile (shape of cross-section), their length, and their material.

At present, the lintels of R.C.C. are widely used to the openings for doors, windows, etc. in a structure because of their strength, rigidity, fire resistance, economy and ease in construction. R.C.C. lintels are suitable for all the loads and for any span.

The width of lintel is equal to width of wall. main reinforcement is provided at the bottom and half of these bars are cranked at the ends.

Shear stirrups are provided to resist transverse shear.
